STR38 MOTORSPORTS SET FOR GT4 AMERICA AND TC AMERICA DEBUT AT INDIANAPOLIS WITH NEW AND FAMILIAR FACES
A new name, STR38 Motorsports, calls attention to the restructured customer race team and full service motorsports facility founded by Ken and Samantha Tan. As an independent, sister team to Samantha Tan Racing, Indianapolis marks the SRO series debut for STR38 Motorsports. The team brings a seasoned roster of championship winning mechanics and engineers supporting the team’s two entries.
STR38 Motorsports is managed by Competition Director and Driver, Jon Miller with Crew Chief Mark Bucsa and makes its home base in a brand new, full-service facility in Orange County, California. The team will campaign a BMW M2 CSR in the TCX class of TC America with driver Chris Walsh, podium finisher and active duty member of our armed forces. The second entry is a BMW M4 GT4 for drivers Robert Mau and Ramana Lagemann in the GT4 America AM class. The team is actively preparing for a multiple car program in 2023 with the new BMW M4 GT4, being delivered in the coming weeks.
Chris Walsh, Driver of the #38 BMW M2 CSR TCX: “I’m excited to return to the TC America grid with STR38 Motorsports. It has been a lot of work to figure out my path back to SRO but I couldn’t be happier to join a team with championship winning DNA and I cannot wait to be on the grid at such a legendary racetrack. My last experience in TC America yielded a podium result and I am hoping to build on that experience as well as all the time I have spent driving GT4 in WRL this past year. I am thankful to Samantha, Jon and everyone at STR38 for giving me the opportunity and to my supporters, my lovely wife Karen, Mode: Push Racewear, Cobra Motorsports, Rule One Investing and Step One Automotive group. I will be racing for my fallen Special Tactics teammates and will honor them with their names on the car and on my helmet. I would also like to highlight a few of the veteran advocacy organizations that I have been involved with and will be on the car, Combat Control Foundation, Operation Motorsport, and Operation VetNow who are all doing great work to support our veterans in meaningful ways.”
Robert Mau, Driver of the #38 BMW M4 GT4: “I’m looking forward to racing at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the first time. The opportunity to join STR38 in the BMW GT4 is a new challenge that I’m really looking forward to. Thank you to Sim-Seats.com for the preparation help. Ramana and I are looking forward to the competition in SRO America and building towards a 2023 program. Thank you to STR38 for the car, support and Jon Miller for the coaching support.”
Ramana Lagemann, Driver of the #38 BMW M4 GT4: “I’m super excited to be racing in GT4 America with STR38. The combination of a strong field, close racing, and the two driver lineup makes this a really unique and dynamic series to be involved in. The fact that my debut will be at iconic Indianapolis – a venue I’ve never been to – motivates me even more to bring home a strong result for the team!”
Jon Miller, Team Manager/STR38 Head Coach: “We have a fantastic driver lineup at Indy, with a deeply experienced crew. I’m excited to show the SRO paddock what STR38 Motorsports is all about. It was a big effort from everyone involved to get the new program going in a relatively short timeframe for the last race of 2022. We have big plans for 2023 and we felt that being on the grid here at Indianapolis was an important step. Although I’m not driving this weekend, I will draw on previous success here with Samantha Tan Racing to guide our drivers who are new to the car, track and series. We’ll take this momentum directly into our off season testing plans.”
Samantha Tan, Co Owner: “We’re very excited to start this new venture as an extension of the STR brand and family! Special thanks to Jon and Mark for their hard work in bringing this idea to life. This weekend, we have our very own eSports driver, Chris Walsh, hopping into the seat of our M2CS R and competing in TC America. Robert Mau and Ramana Lagemann will be competing in GT4 America SprintX in our M4 GT4 and I look forward to cheering everyone on! Make sure to look out for those two swirly BMWs on the grid this weekend.”
