FORMER SRO CHAMPIONS GOTTSACKER AND MAXSON JOIN ST RACING FOR ROAD AMERICA
ST Racing will be joined by two former SRO series champions for the upcoming GT4 America Series round at Road America on 27-29 August.
The Canadian team has regularly entered two BMW M4 GT4s in the GT4 America Series this season, with the series’ youngest ever driver line-up – Tomas Mejia and Bryson Lew – announced for the #38 Silver entry, and Ryan Eversley and Joe Rubbo competing in the sister #28 ‘Pro-Am’ M4 GT4.
Logistical issues have ruled out Rubbo and Eversley for the fourth round of the GT4 America series in Road America. ST Racing’s #28 BMW M4 GT4 will instead be driven by former SRO champions Harry Gottsacker and Tyler Maxson. While it may be the first time the duo has shared a car, both drivers are past winners around the challenging, 4.048-mile Road America circuit.
Having made his Pirelli World Challenge debut in 2016, and collecting his first series win in 2017, Harry Gottsacker was already a GTS-class vice champion before joining forces with ST Racing for the inaugural GT4 America season in 2019. Together with teammate Jon Miller, Harry finished all but one race on the West Pro-Am Cup division podium in 2019. The pair amassed six wins and a further three class podiums to secure drivers’ honours and the first national championship for ST Racing. One year later, Harry collected four Silver category wins with Nick Wittmer in the GT4 America SprintX division to help ST Racing secure its second Teams’ title in as many years.
Tyler Maxson became the youngest race winner and champion in TC America series history in 2019 when he embarked on his first full season of car racing at just 15 years old. In his rookie season, he took back-to-back wins at Sonoma Raceway and nine further class podiums to take the TCA-class championship. Tyler stepped up to the TCR class in 2020 and obliterated his rivals with an astonishing 11 wins from 16 starts to take the TC America TCR class championship. Having switched to the Michelin Pilot Challenge for 2021, Tyler has since earned his first series podium in the TCR class with Copeland Motorsports.
Samantha Tan, team co-owner/driver: “I’m so excited to have our 2019 GT4 America driver’s champion back with ST Racing for his home track event at Road America! Harry is an incredible driver and I know he’ll feel right at home in our M4 GT4 again. Tyler, the TCR class champion, is the newest addition to the team and I’m looking forward to seeing their success together on track.”
Harry Gottsacker, driver: “I’m really thankful for ST Racing giving me the call to drive the #28 BMW M4 GT4 at Road America with Tyler Maxson. The ST Racing team has become our family and I always look forward to an opportunity behind the wheel of their cars. I race against Tyler in IMSA and know that he is a great wheel man and we will be going for Silver class victory. We were so strong there last year and didn’t get the results we were looking for, so we will be going for revenge as well.”
Tyler Maxson, driver: “It’s always good to try something new and I’m excited for this opportunity. I have heard many positive things about the BMW and had the opportunity to experience that last week. We had a great test and I am definitely looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish in race conditions.”
A metronomic run thus far has seen the #38 ST Racing M4 bank points in every race at which it has competed in 2021, while the sister #28 had its most successful race on its previous outing at the Circuit of the Americas. Following the Road America round on 27-28-29 August, ST Racing will continue its GT4 America Series campaign at Watkins Glen on 17-18-19 September.
The teams’ first international endurance campaign meanwhile will continue at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in northern Spain on 3-4-5 September, the fifth championship round of this year’s 24H SERIES powered by Hankook. Having taken two class wins already in the CREVENTIC-operated series, and three more podium finishes, ST Racing remains well in contention for the Overall GT Teams’ title. The squad has also confirmed it will step up to the 24H SERIES’ GT3 category in 2022 with two brand new BMW M4 GT3s, both of which will make their competitive debuts at the Hankook 24H DUBAI on 13-14-15 January.
